REVIEW: Breathless Punta Cana Resort

Breathless Punta Cana is located in Uvero Alto, around one hour from Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) in Dominican Republic.

Around 9 hours flying from London, UK, or 2.5 hours from Miami, USA.

It has a stunning long golden sand beach, all-inclusive food and drink and incredible views of the sea from their ‘ocean view’ suites.

The hotel has standard ‘Allure’ rooms and ‘Xhale Club’ rooms, the latter giving you access to a premium part of the beach, dedicated restaurants, better rooms, Xhale pools and much more.

If you’re wondering if upgrading to an Xhale room is worth it, it really is! Not least for a view like the picture below. The main advice for getting the best deal is to book a standard room at the point of booking your holiday and then when you arrive at the hotel you’ll have the opportunity to negotiate your upgrade with them directly. This tactic saw a saving of around $300 vs the standard British Airways prices.

Breathless’ Ocean View Xhale Suite. What a view!

The resort itself is adults only, modern, clean and full of energy. If you’re looking for a quiet holiday, this may not be the place for you. 3pm is their favourite time for a pool foam party with a DJ playing dance music; it’s surprisingly entertaining and everyone seems to get into the spirit of things. (No doubt helped by the unlimited alcohol from the pool bar!)

The food was really good in all restaurants but the service varied from restaurant to restaurant. The French one by the main bar at the hotel entrance is very, very busy and often required a visit at opening to book a table for later that evening. It was worth the wait though so do try to eat there at least once while you’re there.

A premium, luxury Caribbean hotel, ideal for a couple’s holiday or those looking for a party trip with friends.

The rooms are all extremely spacious, most come with a stocked mini bar (with alcohol, of course) and are really modern.

All in all it was a really enjoyable 2 weeks, not even ruined by a day of torrential rain.

Highly recommended.
